Evan
Stiles grew up locally in Alexandria, VA. He graduated
from Mt. Vernon High School in 1987 and went on to Mary Washington
College, where he was a 4-year letterman in swimming and water
polo, 3 years in baseball and 1 year in tennis. He graduated with a
B.A. in Geography in 1991 and then received a Masters of Sport
Science in Sport Coaching in 1993 from the United States Sports
Academy in Daphne, AL. In the summer of 1993, Evan became an
assistant coach with the Arlington Aquatic Club. Two years later,
he became the Head Age Group coach. This year Evan will begin his
sixth season as the Head Coach of AAC. Evan has also been the Head
Coach of the Bishop O’Connell High School Varsity Swim Team
for the past 17 years, where he was All-Met Coach of the Year in
2003-2004.

Mary
Allen began teaching American Red Cross swim lessons in
1970 in a very cold lake in upstate New York. She became
a certified Water Safety Instructor in 1975 and taught lessons
at a YWCA in East Lansing, Michigan while working on her MA degree
in education. After moving here in the early 1980’s she
was hired as an elementary school teacher for Fairfax
county and continued teaching swim lessons (all ages)
after school. While raising her sons, she worked as
the Swim Lesson Coordinator for Arlington Forest Club for
14 years. Mary began coaching the Mini Gators for AAC in 2003
and enjoys working with these young, energetic swimmers.
She is excited to be coaching again this year.
John Bechtoldt grew up in
Annandale, Virginia. He started swimming at the age of
four with the Forest Hallow Swim Team. He swam for
Forest Hallow for fourteen years and coached there with Matt Wolff
for three years. John swam USA swimming with ATC at a
young age; he also swam for AAC under Evan with Matt Wolff and
Steve Menard. John attended Annandale High School and
was on their high school swim team for four years, earning a
Varsity letter each year. He graduated from Annandale
High School in 2003. After high school
he attended James Madison University where he graduated in 2008
with a Bachelors degree in History. This is John's
second year with AAC and he is very excited to be coming
back
Matt grew up locally in the
Alexandria/Annandale area. He started his swimming career at the
age of three when he joined the Forest Hollow Swim Club summer swim
team. Matt started year - round swimming with AAC just a few years
later. As a young swimmer, Matt was a perennial Junior Olympic
qualifier with Top 16 times. He went on to swim for Annandale High
School, where he qualified for Regionals as a freshman.
Unfortunately, Matt’s competitive swimming career was cut
short by a rotater cuff injury suffered while at Annandale. Though
no longer able to swim at the level he wanted to, Matt’s love
for the sport led him to coaching, which he has loved for many
years since. Matt is very excited to share his knowledge, and love
for the sport with all of the AAC swimmers in this upcomming
season!
Laura Cutrona was
born and raised right here in Arlington, VA. She has been swimming
with AAC since she was 8 years old. She also swam at Dominion Hills
during the summer for 9 seasons. As well as swimming for AAC, Laura
also swam on the varsity swim team for all four of her years at
Bishop O’Connell High School. Laura is currently attending
George Mason University, where she is working towards a
master’s degree in education. Laura began coaching for AAC
during her senior year of high school. This is Laura’s fourth
year coaching for AAC and she is coaching the Age Group group at
W-L.
Erin De Jonckheere is from
Ann Arbor,
Michigan. She started swimming competitively at age 8
for Ann Arbor Swim
Club. She was a Y-National and Zones qualifer.
In 1996 she moved to Caracas, Venezuela
and swam for the Venezuela National Swim
team for two seasons. Once she moved back to the
U.S.A., she was a four year varsity swimmer and state qualifier for
Huron High School. Her events were the 200 and 500 Freestyle
and the 100 Butterfly. Erin was a member of the Indiana University club swim
team and leader of the Indiana University Student
Foundation. She earned a B.S. in Education from IU and
will be starting her Masters in Reading at UVA next Fall. She
currently teaches Kindergarten at Lafayette Elementary School in
DC.Erin is beginning her
first year with AAC and will work with the W-L Age Group Prep and
the Swim Clinic.
Caroline Heeter
was born and raised in Arlington. She swam competitively through
High School. She attended the University of Dallas where she swam
for the club team while majoring in History with a minor in
Spanish. She currently teaches and coaches at Oakcrest School in
McLean. Having previously been the assistant coach, she was made
the head coach of the Arlington Knights of Columbus Holy Mackerels
in 2003. Caroline started coaching with AAC in September 2001 and
currently coaches the Gator and Advanced Gator groups at
Wakefield.
Sarah Keeslergrew up in Upstate NY. She started as a
synchronized swimmer and switched to competitive swimming in HIgh
School and College. Sarah began coaching for a sunchronized
swim team while in High School and for a competitive swim club
while attending Binghamton University for two years. She then
transferred to Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated in
2006 with a B.S. in Imaging and Photographic Technologies and
Communications. Sarah was a school record holder in High
School and College as well as captain of the women’s swim
team at RIT from 2004-2006. She recieved Empire 8 all
conference honors as a senior at RIT for the 200 and 400 IM.
After college she continued coaching for Greater Owego Swim Team
prior to moving to the DC area in 2007. She has been coaching
with AAC since fall of 2007 working with the Age Group Prep
program, and starting this year, with the Age Group program at
Wakefield.
Steve
Menard grew up locally in Annandale, Va. He graduated from
JEB Stuart High School in 2001 where he was a tri-captain of the
swim team his senior year. He went on to Marymount University where
he was co-captain both his junior and senior year. While
swimming for Marymount he received the Rookie of the year award,
High Point award at the Randolph Macon Invitational, was named 2nd
team all conference 3 years in a row, received the Coach’s
Award and was also awarded the Scholar Athlete Award all 4
years. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in Psychology and
began coaching with AAC shortly after. Steve has been selected to be an Assistant
Coach with the PVS Zone team 6 times, twice as the Assistant Head
Coach, and was recently elected be the Head Coach of the 2010 PVS
Long Course Zone team which won the 2010 Eastern Zone Long Course
Championship.
Kevin Nolangrew up locally inAnnandale,Va.
Hegraduated fromAnnandaleHigh
Schoolin 2000, where he was the captain
of the swim team his senior year. While atAnnandale, he was able to qualify for
Junior Nationals. After high school, he went on to swim
forFrostburgStateUniversity. While swimming for
Frostburg, he received the freshman of the year award and continued
to make more National qualifying times. He graduated with a degree
in Recreation & Park Management. Kevin began his swimming
career at Broyhill Crest swim Club inAnnandale,VAat
the age of five. He would later become the head coach there for
three years (2000-2003). Kevin is starting his first year with
AAC.
Kristin
Novak is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up
in central PA swimming for her local YMCA. Kristin went on
the the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 2007. Kristin
was a 2 year captain and a 2 time Big East Champion in the 200
Free. She also competed at the NCAA Championships her junior
and senior year. After graduation, Kristin stayed at Pitt for
an additional year to train for the 2008 US Olympic Trials.
She competed in the 100, 200, and 400 freestyles with the 200 being
her best event. She ended the year ranked in the top 90 in
the world in all three events. Kristin is currently in grad
school at the George Washington University, persuing a Master's
degree in Interior Design.
Ruth Anne attended William and
Mary and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in
Biology. While at W&M, she lettered
on the varsity swim team for four years and attended Senior
Nationals in the 100/ 200 Breast and 200/400 IM.She was the co-captain
of the team her senior year and was named W&M’s Female
Athlete of the Year in 2003. She coached with Williamsburg Aquatic
Club for 4 years and has coached with Arlington Aquatic Club for 3
seasons. She graduated in 2008 with a
degree in Nursing from

Communications from BC and then received her Masters of Education
in Elementary Education from the

. She currently teaches first grade at
LafayetteElementary School
in DCPS and is starting her 2nd year with
AAC.
Matt - Matt
Wolff grew up locally in Annandale, Va. He graduated from
AnnandaleHigh
School in 2002, where he was the captain of the swim team his
senior year. Matt qualified for Junior Nationals in three events as
a member of the Arlington Aquatic Club and was
also a member of the State Record Setting 200 Medley relay team at
Annandale HS. He also led his high school team to third in the
state his senior year. After high school, Matt went on to swim for
the College of William and Mary. While swimming for William
and Mary, he received the Freshman of the year award and continued
to make more National qualifying times. He still has three
swims that put him in the top ten all time at the College. He
graduated in 2007 with a degree in Marketing and Information
Technology. He began his swimming career at Forest Hollow Swim Club
in Annandale, VA, at the age of four. He later was the head coach
there for three years (2001-2004). He also coached for the
Williamsburg Aquatic Club in the summer of 2006. Matt is currently
AAC’s lead coach of the Senior Prep Group at the Wakefield
site and is excited for the upcoming
season!
Derek Young is happy to
be back with the Arlington Aquatic Club. Derek’s
swimming career began with a false start in the NVSL and despite
the ignominious beginning a love of the sport was born. An
inability to hit “live pitching” led to a year round
commitment to swimming and Derek spent 10 years with the Arlington
Aquatic Club. Derek graduated fromAnnandaleHigh
Schoolwhere he co-captained
the swim team. His swimming career continued at
theUniversityofMarylandwhere he lettered
before retiring as a noted “really nice guy.”
After graduation Derek coached in the NVSL and at Langley High
School where he led the Saxons to men’s and women’s
District titles, top five finishes at Regionals and numerous school
records.
